Mid-South commemorates 2006 tornado outbreak anniversary
Twenty years ago today, the April 2, 2006, tornado outbreak significantly impacted the Mid-South. The event resulted in the deaths of 26 people and included five F3 tornadoes that swept through the region, according to the National Weather Service Memphis.
The radar signature near Caruthersville remains a haunting reminder of that evening’s severity, serving as a visual marker of the storms’ destructive power, the weather service added.
Region residents continue to remember the tragedy and the lives affected by the outbreak, which remains one of the most devastating weather events in the area’s history.
