Mississippi advises limited travel amid winter weather and ice conditions
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that three 18-wheelers are stalled on I-55 near Como, around mile marker 257, causing significant traffic backups. Officials urge residents to limit travel to emergencies only in affected areas.
As of Tuesday night, 28 counties in Mississippi are experiencing ice on roads and bridges. These counties include Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Washington, Yalobusha, and Yazoo, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Officials advise drivers to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable, noting the risk of black ice.
