Mississippi braces for coldest night of the season

Mississippi residents face another frigid night as temperatures are forecasted to fall into the teens and single digits in some areas, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Officials offered safety tips for those using space heaters, including placing heaters on a solid, flat surface and keeping them at least three feet away from anything that can burn. They also advised checking cords and plugs for damage and plugging heaters directly into wall outlets, avoiding extension cords and power strips.

Emergency officials encouraged residents to check on family, friends, and neighbors during the cold snap. The agency urged residents to stay warm and take precautions to prevent cold-related injuries.
