Mississippi DOT announces ramp closures on I-55 in Pike County

The Mississippi Department of Transportation announced temporary and permanent ramp closures on I-55 north in Pike County. The agency plans to close the I-55 north entrance and exit ramps at U.S. 98 (Exits 20A and 20B) from 6 p.m. Friday, March 13, to 6 a.m. Monday, March 16. Motorists should expect minor delays due to flagging operations, according to MDOT.

Following the temporary closures, the loop ramps at Exit 20B and U.S. 98 east to I-55 north will be permanently closed. MDOT said these closures are part of a project to improve a five-mile stretch of I-55 in Pike County, which includes redesigning the interchange at U.S. 98, resurfacing the highway, and raising four bridges over I-55, including those at Delaware Avenue, Park Avenue, Enterprise Road, and Robb Street.

The project aims to increase safety and traffic flow. The closures will allow crews to connect ramps to a new roundabout east of the interchange. The roundabout west of the interchange remains open, MDOT said.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and stay alert for roadside workers. More information about the closures and the project is available on MDOT’s website.
