Mississippi EMAs Provide Damage Reports, Shelter Info, and Generator Guidelines

Mississippi emergency management officials are urging residents to report storm-related damage through their county EMA directors or via an online self-reporting tool, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

Damage should be reported promptly to local EMA directors. The agency has provided a link for residents to submit reports online and encourages contacting county offices directly for assistance, as MEMA is currently focused on addressing immediate needs related to storm damage.

Following severe winter weather over the weekend, many Mississippians are experiencing power outages. MEMA is securing generators to support essential county operations, including hospitals, water treatment facilities, and emergency services. The agency emphasizes that these generators are not available for residential use, to ensure critical infrastructure remains operational.

For those seeking shelter or safe rooms, MEMA has published a list of available facilities, which are managed locally. Residents are advised to check their county’s social media pages or official websites for the most current information on shelter availability and operations. Several shelters are already open across the state, with some opening as recently as Jan. 24, according to the agency.

Officials remind residents to stay informed through local channels and to prioritize safety during this winter weather event. The agency continues to assess needs and coordinate resources to support affected communities.
