Mississippi emergency officials are urging residents to seek shelter amid dangerously cold temperatures and winter weather conditions across the state. Warming centers operated by city and county officials are available for those in need of a warm place to stay.
According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), several shelters and safe rooms have been reported open at the local level. Adams County is set to open a shelter on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m., allowing service animals and small pets in kennels. The Adams County Safe Room is located at 323 Liberty Road in Natchez.
Other counties, such as Alcorn County, also have warming shelters available. Authorities encourage residents to check with local officials for specific shelter locations and hours. MEMA emphasizes the importance of utilizing these facilities to stay safe during the winter storm.
