Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Provides Updates on January 2026 Winter Storm

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued updates regarding the ongoing winter storm affecting the state in January 2026. The agency has emphasized that information about the storm, including details on the emergency declaration, ways to help or volunteer, and damage reporting, is available on their website.

MEMA clarified that generators sent to counties are designated for essential operations such as hospitals, water treatment facilities, and emergency services. The agency reiterated that these generators are not available for individual or residential use. Additionally, MEMA is not providing reimbursement for generators purchased for storm-related needs, according to agency officials.

The agency also provided resources for residents, including shelter and safe room locations, and access to weather updates through MDOTtraffic. Governor Tate Reeves held a press conference on January 25 and 26, 2026, which was streamed on YouTube, where officials discussed ongoing response efforts.

For more information, residents are encouraged to visit MEMA’s website or follow official updates for the latest guidance on storm preparedness and response.
