Mississippi engineer-in-training explains how intersections get traffic devices
Raygen Keyes, a safety engineer-in-training with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, said in a video released for Engineers Week 2026 that she analyzes information and data to determine which intersections receive stop signs, signals and other traffic devices, the department said.
Keyes said the work involves reviewing traffic patterns and other information that the public may not realize are part of the decision-making process, according to the video posted by MDOT.
The video was published as part of MDOT’s Engineers Week 2026 observance. The department used social media to highlight Keyes’s role and the data-driven aspects of roadway safety, MDOT said.
MDOT said the segment aims to show how engineers use analysis to make Mississippi roads safer and to spotlight career paths in engineering and transportation.
