Mississippi highway closures and detours due to winter weather conditions
Mississippi transportation officials announced multiple road closures and detours Thursday due to potentially dangerous winter weather conditions. Crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation are working to remove ice from the roadways.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division are diverting northbound traffic from Interstate 55 at Exit 243 in Batesville to the Tennessee state line. They are also diverting westbound traffic from Interstate 22 at Exit 21 in Red Banks to the Tennessee border.
Additionally, eastbound traffic on Interstate 22/U.S. Highway 78 is closed at Exit 1 (Craft Road). Authorities warn drivers that bypassing barricades or traveling through closed roads is at their own risk. Officials said that the right lane of the northbound side of Interstate 55 will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and remain cautious as crews work to clear the ice and ensure safe travel conditions across the region.
