The Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the Mississippi Highway Patrol are marking their 88th anniversary this year, the department said.
State records show the agencies were established by Senate Bill 161 in 1938.
The department said the agencies have spent nearly nine decades serving and protecting Mississippians and that their mission remains to keep roads safe and communities strong.
Officials noted the evolution from the first patrol cars to the officers who wear the uniform today and celebrated 88 years of service.
