The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has announced its partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the 287(g) program. Agents from the auditor’s office will assist with immigration enforcement efforts if needed, according to a statement from the office.
The agency cited estimates that illegal immigration costs taxpayers more than $100 million annually. The partnership aims to help address what it describes as a significant waste of taxpayer funds.
The program allows local agencies to collaborate with ICE to identify and process individuals in violation of immigration laws. The auditor’s office emphasized its commitment to fiscal responsibility and enforcing immigration laws to reduce costs to taxpayers.
