Officials say the partnership aims to address concerns about illegal immigration costs. They estimate that illegal immigration costs taxpayers more than $100 million annually and want to take action to reduce this expense.
The 287(g) program allows local law enforcement agencies to collaborate with ICE to identify and address immigration violations. The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor emphasizes that the partnership is part of its efforts to ensure responsible use of taxpayer funds and enforce immigration laws.
