Mississippi Officials Discuss Interstate 69 Project at State Meeting
Mississippi Department of Transportation officials and stakeholders gathered Thursday to discuss the proposed Interstate 69 project through the state. The meeting focused on the project’s importance in supporting international and domestic trade, facilitating movement from Mexico to Canada.
Since being designated a High Priority Corridor in 1991 under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Act, efforts to complete I-69 have faced funding challenges. During the meeting, Delta Council representative Frank Howell provided a history of the project and shared recent conversations with Mississippi delegates in Washington, D.C.
Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott participated in the meeting via teleconference. The discussion highlighted ongoing efforts to advance the interstate and address funding limitations, with officials emphasizing its significance for regional commerce.
