Mississippi parade-related road closures impact traffic this weekend
Multiple Mardi Gras parades in Mississippi will result in road closures and restrictions this weekend, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes to avoid delays.
Today from 5 to 8:30 p.m., southbound access to Washington Avenue will be closed at U.S. 90 in Jackson County’s Ocean Springs for the Ocean Springs Carnival Association Night Parade, officials said. Drivers can find more information and maps at mdottraffic.com.
On Saturday, U.S. 49 from 17th Street to U.S. 90 in Gulfport will be closed in both directions from 1 to 5 p.m. for the Krewe of Gemini-Gulfport Carnival Day Parade. Commercial vehicles are advised to use 30th Avenue as an alternative, according to authorities.
Additionally, U.S. 90 in Biloxi will be closed from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Porter Avenue, Lameuse Street, and Main Street for the Krewe of Neptune Night Parade. Law enforcement will direct traffic on U.S. 90 eastbound from Lee Street to I-110. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during these times.
