Mississippi Prepares for Ice Storm Expected This Weekend

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has issued a winter weather alert as the National Weather Service predicts an ice storm beginning late tonight and lasting through Sunday.

Residents are urged to prepare by following the 4 P’s of preparedness: check on friends and neighbors, especially vulnerable adults and children; bring pets inside; insulate pipes and leave water dripping to prevent freezing; and cover or bring inside plants.

For those needing shelter from the cold, MEMA has provided a list of warming shelters on its website at https://www.msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/shelters-and-safe-rooms, authorities said.

The agency recommends staying updated on weather conditions and taking necessary precautions to stay safe during the storm.
