Last year, a report revealed that most teachers in Mississippi began the school year without access to classroom supply funds. This leaves many educators covering supplies themselves, according to sources.
Advocates suggest activating the funds earlier than August 1st. Doing so would ensure classrooms are fully stocked and teachers are not forced to spend their own money.
Several bills in the state legislature aim to activate these funds sooner if passed into law. Supporters urge residents to contact lawmakers and advocate for an earlier release of the funds so students and teachers are better prepared for the start of school.
