Mississippi transportation officials award $989,000 to Cleveland, $551,000 to Duncan
Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons presented checks to Cleveland and Duncan officials Thursday, April 2, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said.
Simmons gave Cleveland Mayor Paul Janoush a $989,000 check for existing sidewalk enhancements in the city, MDOT said. He presented Duncan Mayor Charles Harvey with a $551,000 check for lighting and other pedestrian improvements throughout downtown Duncan, MDOT said.
The awards are part of the 2026 Transportation Alternatives Program, which uses federal funds that can cover up to 80% of the total eligible project cost, MDOT said.
MDOT said the Mississippi Transportation Commission invites eligible project sponsors to apply for Transportation Alternatives funding and works with successful applicants to ensure federal and state requirements are met and projects are completed.
