Mississippians traveling west on I-20 urged to avoid Louisiana due to traffic congestion

Louisiana transportation officials have issued a travel advisory for motorists heading west on Interstate 20 toward Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) recommends finding alternative routes due to significant traffic congestion caused by stalled and stopped 18-wheelers.

DOTD officials said the congestion is particularly severe in Bienville, Lincoln, and Ouachita parishes. Crews are working to clear the stalled vehicles and restore traffic flow, but the situation remains active.

The agency is also working around the clock to remove ice and snow from roadways, aiming to reopen closed roads as quickly as possible. The northern and central regions of Louisiana experienced heavy wintry weather over the weekend, contributing to hazardous driving conditions.

DOTD urged travelers to avoid the area if possible and stay updated on further developments as the situation evolves.
