National Weather Service issues cold weather alerts for Memphis area
The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a series of cold weather alerts for the area. An Extreme Cold Warning will take effect at 9 p.m. Friday and expire at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Following the expiration of the warning, the region will be under a Cold Weather Advisory. This advisory will remain in effect through noon Sunday, NWS officials said.
The weather service warned residents to prepare for frigid temperatures this weekend. The area previously under an extreme cold warning will transition to the advisory as conditions gradually change.
Officials advise residents to take necessary precautions against the cold, including dressing warmly and limiting time outdoors. The NWS emphasized the importance of staying safe during the cold snap.
