National Weather Service urges caution as Rip Current Awareness Week begins

The National Weather Service offices in Tallahassee, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama, said the first day of Rip Current Awareness Week is underway and urged residents of the Mid-South traveling to beaches for spring break to be cautious.

The offices directed people to their agencies for more information on rip current safety, the agencies said.

Officials warned beachgoers to remain alert and take precautions when entering coastal waters, the National Weather Service offices said.

For additional rip current safety guidance, the agencies advised consulting the National Weather Service offices in Tallahassee and Mobile.
