NWS Memphis Urges Smartphone Users to Turn On Emergency Alerts

The National Weather Service office in Memphis, Tennessee, urged smartphone users to enable Wireless Emergency Alerts to stay safe during severe weather, the office said.

The office said Wireless Emergency Alerts are among the most important tools people have during severe weather. It advised users to go into their phone settings and make sure weather emergency alerts are turned on.

The office said enabling the alerts could save lives and encouraged residents to check their devices now. The message was posted on the office’s social media accounts, the office said.

The post included hashtags such as #SWAW2026, #WeatherReady and #TNwx, the office said.
