NWS Memphis warns of 45 mph gusts, possible tornadoes; freeze expected next week
The National Weather Service in Memphis warned that a busy, weather-packed day is expected, with a wind advisory taking effect at 8 a.m. and a line of strong to severe thunderstorms arriving as early as 3 p.m., the agency said.
The advisory calls for gusts up to 45 mph that are not associated with thunderstorms, the NWS said. The agency said the primary threat from the approaching line of storms is damaging wind gusts, but that tornadoes can spin up quickly within the line and any tornado that forms could be strong.
The storms are associated with a cold front. Behind the front, much colder conditions will begin the work week, the NWS said. Morning lows Monday and Tuesday are expected to be well below normal, and the agency has issued a Freeze Warning for Monday and an areawide Freeze Watch for Tuesday.
The NWS urged residents to remain vigilant and weather aware and provided a full briefing at https://www.weather.gov/media/meg/DSSBuilder/WeatherBrief.pdf, the agency said.
