NWS Memphis warns of damaging winds, possible EF-2 tornado tonight; uncertainty Wednesday
The National Weather Service in Memphis said damaging winds and a low risk of tornadoes are possible tonight, with any tornado capable of quickly intensifying to EF-2 strength.
Forecasters said the threat would come after dark and could occur while people are sleeping. The agency advised residents to have a way to receive warnings that will wake them if a warning is issued.
The service said greater uncertainty surrounds Wednesday’s setup because ongoing storms ahead of the frontal boundary could reduce how much instability remains. Damaging winds are expected to be the primary concern, with an increasing tornado threat over north Mississippi in the afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service in Memphis described the Wednesday scenario as low probability but high impact and urged people to stay up to date on the latest forecasts and to have a severe weather plan in place.
