NWS Memphis warns that 6 inches of moving water can knock you down
The National Weather Service in Memphis warned that even shallow floodwater can be dangerous, saying it only takes 6 inches of moving water to knock a person off their feet.
The agency said water levels and the speed of flow can change quickly and urged people to get to higher ground. It advised against driving or walking into floodwater.
The NWS told residents to stay informed by monitoring local radio and television for updates and directed people to weather.gov/safety/flood for more information.
