NWS Memphis warns thunderstorm winds can exceed 100 mph

The U.S. National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee warned that damaging thunderstorm winds can exceed 100 mph and cause severe damage to power lines, trees and unsecured objects.

The office said such winds can produce “immense damage” to infrastructure and property, according to a social media post.

The message was posted on the agency’s social media account and included the hashtag #MOSWPW2026, the post shows.
