Owner of TDK Accounting and Tax Services Pleads guilty to fraud and bribery
Verneshia Cody, owner of TDK Accounting and Tax Services in Jackson, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and bribery, according to Mississippi State Auditor Shad White.
White announced that Cody submitted fraudulent documents to the Mississippi Department of Health to secure funds through the Mississippi COVID-19 Health Disparities Elimination Project. She used fake invoices, improper expense claims, and counterfeit checks to obtain grant money.
Authorities say Cody withdrew and spent the funds for personal use. Madison County Circuit Court sentenced her to 10 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections custody, with two years to serve day for day and five years of supervised probation.
White praised investigators and prosecutors, saying his office has recovered more money in the last seven years than any previous period. He also urged the public to report suspected fraud, either through the Auditor’s website or by calling 1-800-321-1275 during business hours.
