Post warns quarter-size hail can fall at 25 to 40 mph

A social media post bearing the hashtag #MOSWPW2026 advised people to report hail by comparing its size to common objects and said hail as small as a quarter can fall at 25 to 40 mph.

The post recommended using familiar items to describe hail size when reporting storms. It did not identify a specific agency or provide supporting data.

The post warned that conditions with quarter-size hail traveling at those speeds are not safe to be outside in and urged caution during thunderstorms.

The message reiterated that observers should be mindful the next time a thunderstorm hits and encouraged timely reporting of hail sizes using object comparisons.
