Thousands of residents across Mississippi are currently without power, and many may be in the dark for an extended period, according to local officials.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency issued safety tips for those using generators, advising never to operate them indoors or in garages. They also recommend keeping generators at least 20 feet away from doors and windows and turning off and cooling generators before refueling.
Power crews are working around the clock to restore electricity. Authorities warn the public not to touch or drive over downed power lines. Officials urge residents to stay home if possible and prioritize safety during the ongoing outage.
