SNAP Replacement Benefits Available for Storm-Related Food Loss
Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) who experienced a power outage lasting four or more hours during Winter Storm Fern are eligible to apply for replacement benefits, according to the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Individuals must submit their requests to their local MDHS office within 10 days of the outage, which occurred on Jan. 24. The deadline to apply is Feb. 3, 2026.
Applications can be submitted using the form available at the department’s website. Current SNAP households that lose food due to a household disaster can request a replacement of their benefits, the agency said.
Officials encourage affected residents to act promptly to ensure they receive assistance in a timely manner.
