Student earns high school diploma and CNA credential through dual enrollment program
A 17-year-old student at Northeast Mississippi Community College has earned her high school equivalency diploma while also completing a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. The achievement was made possible through support from Accelerate MS, which funds programs combining adult education and workforce training.
Alannah Bean, who began caring for her great-grandmother at age 12, enrolled in Northeast’s Adult Education program last September. She also participated in the college’s Integrated Education and Training program, which offers high-demand workforce skills alongside HSE instruction. Bean completed the CNA program in November, receiving praise from her instructor, Dana Chapman, for her noticeable growth and work ethic.
Bean is now preparing for her CNA licensure exam in May. She plans to work as a CNA while pursuing a nursing degree. Northeast officials say the program helped her move beyond a challenging past and toward a promising future.
Funding from Accelerate MS allows students at Northeast Mississippi Community College to earn both a high school diploma and an industry-recognized credential in a short-term training program. The initiative aims to prepare students for immediate workforce entry or continued education, opening pathways for long-term career success.
For those interested in earning an HSE diploma, Northeast offers registration options and support through its adult education programs.
