Travelers on Interstate-55 north of Batesville and Interstate-22 north of Lake Center are advised to turn around immediately, according to local authorities.
Road crews are working to remove stranded vehicles from these interstates, which are in extremely hazardous condition, officials said.
Officials also warned that other highways and county roads in the area may have similar conditions. Motorists are urged to travel only if necessary and to exercise extreme caution.
Authorities did not specify how long the closures or dangerous conditions are expected to last.
