The Tupelo Police Department said Deputy Michael Jimerson gave his life in the line of duty, the department said.
In a statement, the department said it extended its thoughts and prayers to Jimerson’s family, friends and the entire Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of Chief John Quaka.
The department said Jimerson’s service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
