Tupelo reminds parents of juvenile curfew

The City of Tupelo said it enforces a curfew for people under 18 and reminded parents of the hours: Sunday through Thursday 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Friday and Saturday 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The city said children of compulsory school age may not be in public from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the school term unless they qualify for an exception.

The city listed allowed exceptions as being with a parent or authorized adult; traveling to or from work with proper documentation; returning home from a school activity; emergencies; and certain other limited legal exceptions.

Parents can be cited if they knowingly allow their child to violate the curfew, the city said. The city asked parents to know where their children are and to ensure they are home during curfew hours, saying the goal is safety.

The curfew is established in the City of Tupelo curfew ordinance, Sections 19-51 through 19-56, the city said.
