The National Weather Service warned that thunderstorms can produce deadly lightning strikes up to 10 miles away and urged people to seek shelter immediately, the agency said.
In a safety message tied to Tennessee’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, the agency promoted the slogan "See a Flash, Dash Inside!" as a reminder to move indoors when lightning is visible.
The Weather Service said lightning can be deadly even when storms appear distant and advised the public to take the slogan seriously.
