Mississippi is bracing for Winter Storm Fern, which forecasters predict will bring sleet, freezing rain, and heavy snow beginning Friday, according to state officials.
Mississippi Department of Transportation crews have prepared by installing salt spreaders on trucks and ensuring all response vehicles are operational. They also stockpiled salt, sand, and asphalt slag for use during the storm.
Starting Thursday, crews plan to spray salt brine on highways and interstates after rain passes through, aiming to mitigate ice buildup and maintain road safety, authorities said.
