Traffic is halted on Interstate 55 north of Grenada and on Interstate 22 from the Mississippi state line to Myrtle in Union County, due to icy conditions, according to state transportation officials.
Reports indicate ice on roads and bridges across 28 counties, including Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Washington, Yalobusha, and Yazoo.
Authorities urge motorists to stay off affected roadways to ensure safety. The Mississippi Department of Transportation recommends using the MDOT Traffic app or visiting MDOTtraffic.com for the latest road conditions, especially in emergencies.
