Cold front to end warm spell in Columbus; Fire Weather Watch for portions of area Friday

A strong cold front moving east will end a brief warm spell in Columbus, Miss., bringing cooler, windier conditions Friday and a Fire Weather Watch for portions of the WCBI viewing area, WCBI reported Oct. 15, 2026.

WCBI forecast Thursday’s high in Columbus at 93°, which would tie the 2015 record of 93°. Sunshine is expected to persist through the day, with winds starting calm and increasing to about 5 mph out of the south.

Thursday night, WCBI said patchy smoke or haze may develop early between 10 p.m. and midnight. The low temperature is forecast at 63° with south-southeasterly winds near 5 mph.

Friday’s high is forecast at 82°, likely reached near noon, before temperatures fall rapidly into the 60s and 50s as the cold front passes. WCBI said the front is dry and skies should remain mostly sunny.

WCBI said winds will be south-southwest at 5–10 mph in the morning, shifting to north-northwest at 15–20 mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 30 mph. Because of gusty, dry conditions, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for portions of the area from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.
