FedEx gives Jackson State $500,000 for business scholarships and internships

Jackson State University officials announced Wednesday that FedEx has given the school $500,000 to support business student professional development and expand academic programs, officials said.

Officials said the unrestricted gift will be used to expand the College of Businesss supply chain management center and data analytics lab, support student scholarships and internships, and fund faculty research and development.

Business School Dean Nicholas Hill said the gift “not only reestablishes the partnership with the university, but it will support programs and better prepare students to be day-one-ready for the workforce. Their preparation matters, their talent matters and their futures matter,” according to university officials.

Jackson State officials said FedEx gave the university $1 million in 2021 to support educational opportunities and scholarships. Officials also said the corporation has invested in a $500,000 FedEx-JSU Endowed Scholarship Fund and a FedEx HBCU Student Ambassador program.

Rose Jackson Flenorl, FedExs global citizenship and human resources manager, told attendees the company aims to expose students at historically Black colleges and universities to internships, leadership training and other workforce-ready opportunities. Felecia Stewart-Seard, FedExs vice president of Internal Audit International and a 1994 Jackson State College of Business graduate, called returning to the university to celebrate the gift a “full circle moment” and said, “Everybody believes in taking care of home.”
