Five dead, one injured in train crash in Stone County
Five people were killed and one was injured in a crash involving a train in south Mississippi, according to the Stone County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Friday at Pump Branch Road near Highway 49, when a van carrying six people was struck by a train, authorities said.
First responders had to navigate through a wooded area to reach the crash site. Five of the van’s passengers died at the scene, while the sixth was flown by helicopter to a hospital in New Orleans, officials said.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time.
