Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport warns of phone scam offering free flights

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT) said in an announcement that callers are spoofing its main phone number to offer fraudulent promotions, including free airline tickets, and urged the public to ignore the calls.

“These calls are not legitimate and are not associated with Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport or any of our airline partners,” the airport said in a statement. “The airport does not make unsolicited calls offering free airline tickets, prizes, or travel promotions.”

The airport warned recipients not to provide personal, financial or payment information and to hang up immediately. The announcement said scammers may ask people to press buttons on their phone, follow instructions from the caller or return calls to a different number shared during the scam. Fraudulent calls can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission.

GPT officials said they are actively working to address the issue.
