Mississippi anglers can fish without a license July 4

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said July 4 will be a statewide free fishing day, allowing anglers to fish most public waters without a license as Americans observe the nation’s 250th year of independence.

“We encourage everyone to enjoy Mississippi’s abundant fishing and boating opportunities,” the department said in a release. “Whether you are an experienced angler or looking to try fishing for the first time, this celebration offers a chance to get outdoors, make memories, and introduce someone new to fishing.”

The department said permits will still be required at state fishing lakes and state park lakes on July 4.

Officials said the free day presents an opportunity for newcomers to try fishing and for experienced anglers to introduce others to the sport.
