Mississippi DOT urges drivers to secure loads as summer travel begins

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged drivers to properly secure loads as summer travel gets underway, the department said.

MDOT warned that improperly secured or unsecured objects in the back or on top of a vehicle can cause accidents, injuries and even death, the agency said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says unsecured items in and on vehicles contribute to crashes that result in injuries and deaths each year, NHTSA said.

MDOT issued the advisory in a news release aimed at reminding motorists to take precautions during the busy travel season, WJTV reported.
