New SNAP Online Benefits Available
Starting today, citizens on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistances Program are able to order their benefits online in making food purchases.
The services can be used online through major retailers Amazon and Walmart. These methods has already been tested by the Mississippi Department of Human Services and approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“This is a major step forward in eliminating the dilemma caused by food insecurity and food deserts in Mississippi. We appreciate FNS providing oversight of such a necessary program, which will give Mississippians healthy eating options who otherwise might not have them,” stated MDHS Executive Director Robert G. “Bob” Anderson.
No local retailers are currently available through the online SNAP program, but businesses can apply through the FNS website.
The SNAP benefits can also only be used on food purchases, so shipping and delivery costs added on must be paid in a different way.
