Sheriff: Man killed 2 people, then himself in Rankin County standoff

A man killed two people and later took his own life during a standoff in Rankin County, Sheriff Bryan Bailey said.

Bailey said officials responded Friday to a home on Monterey Road near Florence after reports of a land dispute. He said the suspect had been involved in the dispute with two others.

Bailey said the dispute grew hostile and two people were killed. When deputies arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside a home, Bailey said.

Bailey said the man remained inside the home and ultimately died by suicide. He said authorities have not released the names of the victims or the suspect and provided limited additional details.
