Apple releases iOS 27 with Siri AI beta, Photos and Safari upgrades

Apple released iOS 27 to the public on Monday, Sept. 14, bringing a Siri AI beta and a range of new Photos, Safari and system changes for compatible iPhones, Fox News reported.

Fox News said iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 family and newer models, and the second‑generation iPhone SE and later. However, the largest Apple Intelligence features — including Siri AI — require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or an iPhone 16 model or later. Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English on supported devices, and Apple says additional languages and regional availability will follow.

Apple told Fox News its internal testing shows performance improvements in iOS 27: apps can launch up to 30% faster, new photos can load in the Photos app up to 70% faster and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. Apple also said the update improves transitions between Wi‑Fi and cellular and makes Mail search more relevant; it noted actual results will vary by device and usage.

Photos: Fox News reported Apple Intelligence features in Photos now include Spatial Reframing (change composition and generate new image edges), an Extend tool to expand beyond original edges, and upgraded Clean Up for removing larger unwanted objects. Image Playground can generate images in many more styles, including photorealistic ones, and can start from an existing image. Apple warned some generative tools are subject to daily usage limits and advised inspecting results before sharing.

Safari: A new Notify Me feature can monitor a webpage for changes such as restocks or price changes and alert users; checks can be scheduled hourly, daily, weekly or monthly, though Notify Me does not work on every site. Safari can also automatically organize open tabs by topic, Fox News said.

Phone and Call Context: Apple Intelligence can surface relevant information from other apps during supported business calls — for example, pulling a confirmation code from Mail — without analyzing call audio, according to Apple as reported by Fox News.

Interface and Camera: iOS 27 adds a transparency slider to adjust the Liquid Glass look across iOS in real time. The Camera app lets users pin frequently used controls above the frame and customize that row; available controls depend on device and camera mode and include Flash, Live Photo, Timer, Exposure, Styles and Aspect.

Privacy and parental tools: Fox News reported new Ask to Browse requests for children under Family Sharing, expanded Communication Safety to intervene on detected gore or violent content in shared photos and videos, and Find My updates that allow custom durations for location sharing or pausing sharing until the end of the day.

Shortcuts and automation: Describe a Shortcut lets users tell Apple Intelligence in plain English what they want automated; Shortcuts then builds the actions. Apple said some Shortcuts that rely on cloud AI models may be subject to daily usage limits.

Installation advice in the report repeats standard recommendations: back up your iPhone, connect to Wi‑Fi and ensure adequate battery or plug the device into power. Fox News noted that iOS releases can take time to appear on every compatible iPhone, so the update may not show immediately.
