Black bear enters Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson emergency department, eats donated Halloween candy; no injuries
A black bear entered the emergency department at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage around 2 a.m. on Oct. 12 and helped itself to a bucket of donated Halloween candy, officials said. No one was injured.
Alaska’s News Source reported the bear moved through the emergency area before finding the donation bucket. A woman identified as Sherri Warnke, who was leaving after visiting her mother, encountered the animal about 30 feet away in a dimly lit hallway and backed away until the bear left the corridor.
The hospital made an announcement over the intercom warning of a bear in the building, and staff later showed Warnke a surveillance photo of the bear standing at the emergency department reception desk. Hospital officials said the bear exited through the same entrance it used to enter.
The account and details above were reported by Alaska’s News Source and summarized by Fox News’ coverage of the incident.
