Gene Shalit, a longtime film critic for NBC’s “Today” show, has died at 100, the program said.
Shalit joined “Today” in 1970 and became the show’s arts editor in 1973, the show said.
The program said Shalit was known for his puffy hair, oversized handlebar mustache and a fondness for puns. It described him as a middle-of-the-road critic noted for his wit and intelligence.
The announcement did not provide further details about the circumstances of his death or survivors, the show said.
