Rubio says U.S. nearing end of Iran conflict, warns of nuclear ambitions

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that the United States is approaching the “finish line” in its conflict with Iran. He warned that Tehran is seeking to become the next North Korea by developing intercontinental missiles capable of striking the United States, unless action is taken.

Rubio made the remarks during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity,” stating that Iran was pursuing missile technology that could reach U.S. mainland. He credited President Donald Trump’s decision to launch Operation Epic Fury with preventing Iran from achieving that goal.

“They were aiming to become the next North Korea, except not a North Korea run by a troublesome regime, but an Iran run by radical Shia clerics with intercontinental missiles that could reach the mainland of the United States eventually,” Rubio said. “That’s what they would have ultimately achieved… had President Trump not taken these steps that he’s taken.”

Rubio also criticized Iran’s leadership for allegedly misleading the public about its missile capabilities. He called Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, a liar for denying Iran’s missile range on television.

The senator echoed President Trump’s recent optimism, stating that the conflict could end in a few weeks. Rubio said progress is being made in private talks with Iran, despite Tehran’s public defiance, and emphasized that the U.S. will not be duped into prolonged negotiations.

Rubio warned that if a deal is not reached, the U.S. will continue its military campaign. He characterized Iran’s leadership as having destructive intentions and accused them of believing their purpose is to bring about the end of the world. Rubio also hinted at a possible reevaluation of the U.S. role in NATO once the Iran conflict concludes, citing concerns over alliance member support.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the nation Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time to discuss the status of the U.S.-Iran conflict, according to the White House.
