Schiff doubts Trump claim of Iran talks, says move may aim to lower gas prices

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Monday expressed doubt about President Donald Trump’s claim that the U.S. and Iran are negotiating a resolution to the weekslong conflict.

“If what the president is saying is true, that’s encouraging. But of course, we’ve heard the president say things that proved to be completely untrue in the past,” Schiff said.

Schiff also suggested the president’s public comments about negotiations could have an economic motive, saying Trump was “trying to bring down the price at the pump” by discussing talks with Iran.

His remarks came as tensions between the United States and Iran have continued for several weeks, according to the report.
