The Senate voted 61-32 to table a bipartisan amendment that would have removed a delay on a federal ban on most hemp-derived THC products. The amendment was introduced by Sen. Ted Budd, a North Carolina Republican, and supported by about a dozen other senators.
The delay is part of a stopgap government funding bill. The temporary measure pushes back the enforcement of the ban by one month, allowing more time for legislative debate.
The amendment’s defeat means the ban will take effect as scheduled after the one-month extension. Details on the reasons for the amendment’s failure were not provided by Senate leaders or the sponsors.
